Year 11 Legal Studies Court House Excursion

Date: 20 May
Time: 9:00 AM-2:35 PM
Location: Broken Hill Court House

Year 11 Legal Studies will be going to the Court House as part of their curriculum. Students will make their own way to the Court House and meet at 9am before going in to watch the proceedings. They will break for lunch on the lawn. They will finish the day at 2.35pm and will need to be picked up from the Court House.

Pulse Workshops and Performance

Location: Willyama High School and Broken Hill Civic Centre

Pulse Broken Hill is a performing arts event, providing high-quality opportunities in the performing arts for students and teachers from NSW public schools in Broken Hill and surrounds. Pulse provides performance opportunities for students of all abilities from Kindergarten to Year 12. Schools accessing Pulse are offered workshop experiences in creative arts, dance, music and drama. Pulse Broken Hill workshops will run from Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22 May 2025, with performances at the Broken Hill Civic Centre on Thursday 22 May 2025 (Term 2 Week 3) at 5:30 pm. Tickets for this event can be purchased from Pulse Broken Hill 2025 | Broken Hill City Council These workshops will take place instead of timetabled lessons at Willyama High School.

Broken Hill City Council Reconciliation March

Location: Broken Hill Town Square and Sturt Park

Broken Hill City Council will be hosting a Reconciliation March to mark the National Reconciliation Week that takes place 27 May - 3 June. Invited students will particpate in the march which will take place from Town Square to Sturt Park on Wednesaday 28 May. This will be followed by a community BBQ, activities and Sea of Hands display in Sturt Park between 12pm - 2pm. Information has been sent home via School Bytes.

Science and Engineering Challenge

Location: Cobar, NSW 2880

The Outback Science and Engineering Challenge (SEC) is a nationwide STEM outreach program. Through this program, students experience aspects of science and engineering that they would not usually see in their school environment. Cost: $45.00 Venue: Cobar High School (Wetherell Crescent Cobar NSW 2835) Overnight Location: Cobar High School or the Cobar Recreation Centre (TBA) Transport: Students will travel to and from the venue via chartered bus. This bus will be shared with students from BHHS. DEPART: Wednesday 28 May, from Broken Hill High School front gate Garnet Street entrance at 10.10 am. RETURN: Thursday 29 May, at Broken Hill High School front gate Garnet Street entrance at approximately 8.00 pm. Dress Code: Full school uniform and closed in shoes for competition Comfortable clothes for travel Food: Please bring recess, snacks and lunch for Wednesday 28 May, some spending money will be required for any incidentals Dinner will be provided, please indicate in the additional comments on the permission note if your child has any dietary requirements Please bring water bottle. Please Bring: Warm clothing. Rain gear/ Wet weather gear (if required). Suncream. A change of clothes. Medication (if required). Shower footwear (Thongs etc) Pillow Sleeping Bag Any toiletries required. Towel Additional Information: Students must NOT bring expensive items as the school takes no responsibility for any potential theft or loss. Full payment is required prior to departure. Cross Country

WILLYAMA HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY Interested students will need to register via the PDHPE Staffroom. Interested students will walk to Memorial Oval during recess on the Friday 30 May under teacher supervision and will return back at school for Periods 5 & 6. Futher information will be sent home via school bytes to those registered students.

Meet an Astronaut - Katherine Bennell-Pegg

Date: 18 June

Location: Broken Hill Civic Centre

Year 10 students will participate in a visit from Katherine Bennell-Pegg, Australian astronaut and space engineer. As the first person qualified as an astronaut under the Australian flag and the Director of Technology for the Australian Space Agency, Katherine will deliver a 30-minute keynote address followed by a Q&A session. Katherine will share how her early passion for space and engineering has driven her remarkable career developing space programs, technologies, and missions worldwide. Students will learn about her work as technical lead on Australia's first Moon rover mission and her role in developing plans to capitalise on Australia's space capabilities.
