Extension to stay-at-home rules for Broken Hill LGA

As you will be aware the stay-at-home rules have again been extended for Broken Hill LGA. This replaces any existing orders in regional NSW and as a result home learning will continue at Willyama High School during Week 10 (13-17 September). So, if you are working from home, and your child can be educated from home, please keep them at home.

In the event stay-at-home rules are lifted in Broken Hill LGA before 25 October, we  can expect to return to face-to-face teaching and learning at Level 3.

In the meantime, we will continue to have minimal supervision on site for students of essential workers, with online learning continuing via Teams.

In order to further support our students who have been putting in a massive effort during this challenging time, we have decided that there will only be normal Year 7-11 timetabled lessons for periods 1-4 during Week 10. There will be no set learning activities for periods 5 and 6. It is recommended that students spend period 5 and 6 undertaking some form of physical or educational leisure activity away from a ‘screen’.

In the event stay-at-home rules are lifted in Broken Hill LGA before 25 October, we  can expect to return to face-to-face teaching and learning at Level 3.

The following arrangements have been made for our students:

  • Year 12 Students – will recommence modified Trials from home on 13 September, following the timetable from where we left off. Class teachers will be in touch with students to provide details of how these tasks will look for subjects involved. The normal Year 12 timetabled classes will not run during Week 10.
  • Year 11 Students – will undertake modified end of year exams in the first two weeks of Term 4 during class time for a number of subjects.
  • Year 7 – 10 – All assessment tasks will be rescheduled to Term 4.

We have been advised by NSW DoE that Year 12s official last day of attendance is Friday 17 September. However, please be assured that teachers will continue to support students right up until their HSC exams (commencing 9 November) and students will have voluntary onsite access to their normal timetabled classes from 25 October or beforehand if Broken Hill LGA stay-at-home orders are lifted earlier.

Advice for families

Finally, we would like to thank our wider school community, for your support over the past few weeks. We know that this is a new and different way of teaching and learning for both students and teachers and understand the enormous responsibility and challenges that Remote Learning placed on parents, guardians, and students as you had to create time, space, routine, and support for learning at home.

We are so proud of all of our students for their dedication and efforts with continuing their school learning during lockdown. Your commitment to your education as not gone unnoticed.

Thank you and stay safe.
