Exciting news! Willyama High School is participating in the DIY Big Freeze 10 fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) this year.

MND is the name given to a group of diseases in which the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move around, speak, swallow and breathe fail to work normally and eventually die. With no nerves to activate them, the muscles gradually weaken and waste. More than 2,000 people are currently fighting MND in Australia, with an average life expectancy of just 27 months from diagnosis. Today, two Australians will die from MND, and two more will be diagnosed. Founded in 2014, FightMND was established with the purpose of finding effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. MND is a Beast. It is an insidious disease without any effective treatment or a cure, but over the past ten years, FightMND has been able to make real change.

So, we are going to make a splash in our community, raising money and awareness by hosting our very own DIY Big Freeze at Willyama High School! Here's everything you need to know:

• Willyama Big Freeze: Mark your calendars for June 7th as we come together for the event.
• Ice Bucket Challenge: Ten lucky staff members will be selected through student voting to take on the ice bucket challenge.
• Blue Casual Day: Students and staff can show support by wearing blue attire on the day. A gold coin donation is encouraged, with all proceeds going towards Fight MND.
• SRC Bake Sale: Indulge your sweet tooth at the SRC's bake sale during the event. Every purchase helps us in the fight against MND.
