High potential and gifted education

Willyama High School is excited to announce the launch of our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Program for Stage 5 students (Years 9–10) in 2026.

This initiative is designed to recognise and extend students who demonstrate advanced potential across a wide range of domains, and to provide opportunities for them to engage in authentic, challenging, and meaningful learning experiences.

What is the HPGE Program?

The HPGE program is built around the Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education Policy. It aims to nurture students’ talents by offering structured enrichment opportunities, authentic project-based learning, and pathways to excel beyond the classroom. Students selected will take part in weekly one-period sessions across the school year, working on major projects that build their skills, confidence, and creativity.

Why are we doing this?

We know that high potential learners thrive when given the opportunity to be challenged and supported. This program will:

The four domains:

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)

The HPGE initiative recognises that talent comes in many forms. Students will be placed into one of four domains:

Each domain will undertake a year-long project, broken into term-based goals, culminating in a showcase at the end of the year.

What’s Next?

In the lead-up to 2026, we will share more information about the student selection process and how families can support their child’s application.

We look forward to launching this exciting initiative and celebrating the unique talents of our students. Together, we will continue to connect, inspire, and excel.
